Caller IDs

A Caller ID is the phone number that appears on the recipient’s device when an Outbound Call is made. With Callr, you can configure the caller ID to reflect your brand, campaign, or use case — as long as it meets regulatory and technical requirements.

📲 Using Callr Numbers as Caller ID

Any phone number purchased through the Callr Portal can be used as a Caller ID — as long as it is attached to an activeCallr Actions scenario.

Caller ID is configured using the cli parameter in the dial@v1 action:

- action: dial@v1
  params:
    cli: "+33199001020" # Caller ID
    targets:
      - number: "+33639980010"
        timeout: 30

🔐 Bring Your Own Caller ID

You may also use external numbers as caller IDs — for example, your business’s existing support line or a mobile number — by requesting approval through the Callr Customer Portal.

To verify ownership, you’ll need to:

  1. Submit the number(s) via the Callr Portal.
  2. Prove ownership via PIN verification, incoming call challenge, or document-based validation.

Once verified, these numbers can be used in your outbound scenarios just like Callr-owned numbers.

🌍 Country specific regulation

🇺🇸 US Compliance: STIR/SHAKEN

Callr is fully compatible with STIR/SHAKEN — the industry framework designed to prevent caller ID spoofing and robocalls in the United States.

For outbound calls made from US numbers:

  • Calls are signed with an identity token
  • We authenticate the legitimacy of the caller ID
  • This improves call delivery rates and helps maintain trust with recipients

🇫🇷 France Compliance: MAN (Mécanisme d’Authentification des Numéros)

In France, Callr supports MAN (Mécanisme d’Authentification des Numéros) — a regulatory framework similar to STIR/SHAKEN.

In addition, French regulations impose strict rules on outbound caller ID usage:

⚠️ High-Volume Call Restrictions

  • Any caller ID making more than 250 calls per day will be blocked
  • If you're making large volumes of calls, you must use NPV numbers (Numéros Polyvalents Vérifiés)

💡

Callr offers NPV numbers

You may purchase them directly on the Callr Portal.

☎️ Callback Requirement

All caller IDs used in France must be reachable:

  • If someone calls the number back, it must answer
  • The response must clearly identify the calling company (the end user)

🚫 Non-Compliance Risks

Failure to follow these rules may result in:

  • Fines from French telecom regulators
  • Blocking of your numbers by carriers
  • Degraded call quality or delivery rates

✅ Best Practices

  • Always use verified or Callr-assigned numbers
  • Ensure your caller ID numbers are reachable and properly labeled
  • For marketing or notification campaigns, consider dedicated NPV numbers to comply with volume limits
